Our central question is: How will and how should the way people communicate change because of advances in software, hardware, and wireless technologies? Specific topics of inquiry include the communication-enablement of business processes, context-aware applications, presence-based technologies, social networks, intelligent agents, mobile communication solutions, communications middleware, user-interface techniques, and more.

Delivering robust IP communications involves many aspects - foremost among them are security, reliability, and availability of IP communication applications and system components. One of the prerequisites for the wide adoption of IP communications in mission-critical applications in the enterprise is dependability - secure, reliable, and always available communications. These characteristics have to be realized on a variety of network infrastructures with varying degrees of robustness. We approach this with the following objective: to be the last service standing when the network is attacked and to resume normal operation immediately once the attack dissipates.
