"If you go and talk to our people and ask why they are doing something, they will give you a good reason why they are doing it" |
| Research | I came to Avaya from Bell Labs in 2000 to launch a research program aimed at the future of enterprise communication. At the time, Avaya Labs was being formed from Bell Labs. I attracted the Research leadership team and worked with them to build a thriving organization. We conduct leading-edge research, working with real-world customer scenarios to accelerate product innovation and mitigate technical risk My personal research on compilers, programming languages, and algorithms was cited in my nomination as a Fellow of the Association of Computing Machinery (ACM) in 1996.

| Projects | In addition to my day job, I have been working on a completely new edition of the textbook, “Compilers: Principles, Techniques, and Tools,” popularly known as the dragon book because of its cover. My co-authors are Jeff Ullman and Monica Lam at Stanford University and Al Aho at Columbia University. |
| Publications | Besides the dragon book and the textbook, “Programming Languages: Principles and Practice,” I have published over 60 technical papers. |
